15-year-old boy dies after being hit by car in Mount Laurel

Jude Gill

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 15-year-old freshman at Lenape High School in Burlington County who was hit by a car on Sunday has died.

Jude Gill was struck around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday while he was walking on Church Road, near Union Mill Road, in Mount Laurel. The school announced his death on Wednesday.

Police said the 29-year-old driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police have not said if any charges would be filed.

Chris Beeler, president of Mount Laurel basketball and Gill’s former coach, called him a “super kid” who brought energy and kindness everywhere he went.

“Very respectful, very funny, outgoing, very friendly,” he told NBC10. “He made friends with everybody. Everybody liked Jude.

“Tragic, it’s sad. I felt horrible for his family. No parent should have to bury their kid.”

In a statement, Lenape High principal Tony Cattani said, “Jude’s death will be felt deeply within our school and throughout our community.” Grief counselors will be available for students and teachers.

A GoFundMe for the family has raised more than $88,000.
