PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police are investigating an incident involving two teens they say stole a car and crashed it into another driver Tuesday morning in North Philadelphia.
Police say it was around 3 a.m. when officers were patrolling the Logan neighborhood near 15th and Rockland Streets. That’s when they saw someone driving a stolen blue Kia Optima, followed the car, and tried to stop it along Broad Street near Ruscombe Avenue.
The driver took off, speeding northbound on Broad Street, blowing through a red light, and continuing for about seven blocks before moving into the southbound lanes and crashing into a Buick.
Officials say inside the stolen Kia were two 14-year-olds who were severely injured. They were taken to the hospital and remain critically hurt. The 34-year-old driver of the Buick was also taken to the hospital and remains in critical condition but is expected to survive.
The police car was also hit but no one was injured.
Both teens are being held as prisoners in the hospital.
