PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A fight broke out Tuesday at a weekly protest in front of Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney's house. Four people, including two police officers, were hospitalized.
Police said the incident started when one of the protesters started to walk down the driveway into the rear of a private condominium complex, struck a civil affairs officer who tried to stop him, then bolted back into the crowd of about 35 protesters.
According to the police account, several officers waded into the crowd to arrest him.
Police say he bit an officer, and a second protester began swinging at officers.
The two protesters and two police officers were taken to Jefferson Hospital. One officer suffered a broken finger.
The protesters were charged with assault and defiant trespass.
A spokesman for the group Act UP, which organized the protest, said the group is talking to lawyers about the incident.
