PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle along Columbus Boulevard in South Philadelphia Saturday night. Police are asking for the the public's help in finding the hit-and-run driver.
According to police, it was just after 9 p.m. Saturday when 50-year-old Jorge Hernandez-Sanchez of Philadelphia was hit by a vehicle as he walked along the 1800 block of South Columbus Boulevard, near the shopping center where Walmart and Home Depot are located.
The driver of striking vehicle took off, according to authorities, leaving Hernandez-Sanchez laying on the road. He initially suffered a broken leg and head trauma.
Emergency responders transported the man to an area hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. However, he was pronounced dead just a couple hours later, at 11:20 p.m.
Police found vehicle debris at the scene they believe came from a dark gray-colored vehicle, possibly a Toyota.
