PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are looking to identify and locate suspects wanted in connection with the death of a 76-year-old Mount Airy man.
On Oct. 17 around 2 p.m., police say Eric Holmes was at Sharpnack and Ross streets riding an electric scooter. He was on his way to the grocery store to grab food to cook for dinner when he was attacked and robbed.
Holmes, who police described as small in stature and weight — only about 130 pounds – was kicked and punched, suffering from a brain bleed and broken rib, as well as other internal injuries. The suspects took his scooter, bag and wallet. Some of the items, including the scooter, were returned – the wallet was not.
“Mr. Holmes was just minding his business, just going to the store, going shopping, and to be attacked like this is totally wrong,” said Lt. Hamilton Marshmond with the Homicide Unit.
“We, as a society, cannot let persons prey on innocent people, let alone the elderly, commit these crimes against and continue to walk around without a care in the world.”
Holmes, a “pillar of the community,” was taken to a nearby hospital and died from the injuries on Dec. 6.
