NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — A popular park in Camden has a brand new basketball court thanks to the 76ers.
A freshly paved, blue court at Farnham Park is adorned with the 76ers logo. The new proving ground for the next generation of basketball stars in Camden was unveiled by mascot Franklin and the 76ers Dance Team last week, immediately followed by a practice with 76ers camp coaches.
Former University of South Carolina player Nelly Perry says this is where she learned about grit and determination, and she’s so happy to see the court get a new life.
“It’s like a full circle moment for me,” Perry said. “It looks completely different. When I walked over and seen it, I was excited.”
Sixers COO Lara Price says the court is finished, but the work is far from done.
“This is our community. We live, work, and play here. It is our responsibility to be a part of the community, and when there’s needs, there’s a ton of basketball courts that need a lot of work,” Price said.
Price says they have more court and park renovations planned for neighborhoods in Camden and Philly.
