PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania’s 911 system has been restored.
Issues of dropped calls were reported at Delaware County’s 911 center around 2 p.m. Friday, said PEMA Director Randy Padfield. Alerts came across phones about an hour later.
The intermittent outages lasted until just about midnight. Those in need of emergency assistance were urged to call local police departments.
In Philadelphia, officials said some 911 calls were able to get through, though many people who did not have an emergency attempted to “test” the line, making it difficult for those with actual emergencies to get in contact with someone.
The root cause is not yet known. An investigation is underway.
