PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Christy Brady has resigned as acting city controller of Philadelphia and is expected to announce that she plans to officially run for the controller’s seat.

Brady was appointed to the position by Mayor Jim Kenney in November after Rebecca Rhynhart resigned from the job to run for mayor.

Since Brady was appointed, not elected, she has to resign from the acting position if she were to run for the office in the May primary. The election is being held two years early to fill out Rhynhart’s term.

Brady has already received the Democratic ward leaders’ endorsement, even though she’s not officially a candidate. They endorsed her on Tuesday over three declared candidates for the position.

Brady has worked in the Philadelphia Controller’s Office, which serves as the city’s financial watchdog, for nearly 30 years.
