NORRISTOWN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A 20-year-old Huntingdon Valley man will spend at least the next six years in prison for a high-speed, drunk-driving crash that killed one passenger in his car and injured three others.

Montgomery County judge Risa Ferman sentenced Alexander Koenigsberg to between six and 25 years in prison, saying his actions led directly to the consequences that killed his friend, 20-year-old Nicholas Bednarek, and seriously injured three others in his car on Jan. 23, 2022, on Greenwood Avenue in Cheltenham.

Koenigsberg was legally drunk, with marijuana in his system, going more than 60 mph in a 25 mph zone, others in the car begging him to slow down and let someone else drive, when he slammed his Honda Civic into a utility pole.

“He took a life," said prosecutor Gwendolyn Kull. "And really, when you think about it, although the three others in his car that night survived, their lives forever are going to be impaired by their injuries and from the trauma of that crash that night.”

Ten days before the crash, Koenigsberg was pulled over going 107 mph in a 65 mph zone. A month before the crash, he posted a video on Instagram of himself driving over 100 mph.

Koenigsberg apologized, acknowledging his destructive behavior, saying his selfishness changed so many lives. As he was led from the courtroom in handcuffs Koenigsberg added:

“It is all my fault, I take full responsibility.”
