PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man is facing eight years in federal prison for a robbery and separate carjacking nearly three years ago.

Around 11 p.m. on Sept. 9, 2022, court filings say 25-year-old Amir Harvey and three others walked up to the Hook and Reel Restaurant in Northeast Philadelphia where an employee was outside on his break.

That’s when Harvey pulled out a gun and pointed it at the employee while ransacking the office and stealing $400 before fleeing.

Ten days later, on Sept. 19, police were called to a home on Maxwell Place, also in the Northeast, for a reported carjacking. A mother told police that around 6:15 a.m. she turned on her car with a phone app while she and her teenage daughter were getting ready to leave for school.

Once they walked out of the house, Harvey pointed an imitation gun fitted with a high-capacity magazine at their heads. He took the keys and drove off. Police used the victim’s app and neighborhood surveillance video to locate and arrest Harvey a few miles away in Rhawnhurst.

Harvey pleaded guilty to robbery, carjacking and possession of ammunition by a felon in October. A federal judge has sentenced him to eight years in prison and three years of supervised release.
