ALDAN, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — An investigation is underway after a police officer shot and killed a person in Aldan, Delaware County, law enforcement sources said.
The shooting happened near South Clifton Avenue and Aldan Avenue around 3:30 a.m. Thursday. The neighborhood is across the street from Providence Park and the Aldan Municipal Building.
A large police presence remains in the area. Officers from Sharon Hill, Lansdowne and Darby are on scene, as well as investigators with the Delaware County District Attorney’s Office.
At this point, authorities have not said exactly what happened or who was involved, only that an Aldan cop shot a suspect. Sources said the man stopped police and requested a ride, then lunged at officers with a knife.
One neighbor, who didn’t want to be identified, said the sounds of gunshots woke her up.
“I believe I heard three [shots],” she said. “I was trying to get my bearings straight to figure out — did I just hear shots? But very quickly the police were here.”
