MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — An 18-year-old has been arrested and charged in connection with a crash in Springfield Township last month that killed a 15-year-old and injured two others.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s office, Asiyah Mowatt-Mays, of Philadelphia, was driving a stolen red Hyundai with two teens — a 15-and 16-year-old — inside on July 29 when she ran a red light at Stenton and Evergreen avenues and was struck by a white Infiniti.
Both vehicles flipped onto their passenger sides and landed on the grass.
The 15-year-old was found unconscious and lying on the sidewalk. He died at the scene. The 14-year-old was also unconscious outside of the car. He was severely injured.
The driver of the Infiniti had to be extracted from his car and was severely injured.
Officials say no one in either vehicle had seatbelts on at the time of the crash and that the teens were hanging out of the Hyundai’s windows.
Mowatt-Mays is charged with homicide by vehicle, aggravated assault by vehicle and related offenses.
