PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Philadelphia founder of Celebrating Sisterhood is bringing her fourth annual women's conference to Germantown next weekend.
The She Shines Conference was born from a question Robin Shine Maddox asked herself about five years ago: On a daily basis, how many women are really, actually, being celebrated every day just for who they are?
Maddox says it was through her experience with breast cancer in 2019 that she found her purpose — "and that is to proclaim and to encourage women to inspire women, to empower women, and to offer women hope, no matter what they're going through."
So she designed a conference to lift up women and to offer support so that, no matter the battle, they do not fight alone. The foundation of She Shines is three core pillars:
—Health, wellness and safety
—Social justice
—Spiritual enrichment

The conference offers access to resources, professionals and other women willing to share their lived experiences, as well as a roster of speakers on hand to discuss anything from divorce to financial stability.
Maddox mentioned, in particular, voting rights.
"We help get these individuals elected into office, not just to sit in the office, but also to be an advocate and support for our needs, our causes, those things that are of issue to us, our families education."
And, Maddox says, breast cancer awareness will always be a mainstay.
She says she wants women to know that "there are women, just like them, that have situations — but knowing that they're not alone, and that there are new relationships that could be forged that will embrace them and walk them through their journey."
Now in its fourth year, the She Shines Conference will be at New Covenant Church of Philadelphia, Saturday, Nov. 4.
