PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One person is dead, and at least seven people, including a firefighter, were injured after a fire tore through an Upper Darby apartment building Saturday morning.
Fire crews said the blaze started around 11 a.m. inside the second floor of the Llanerch Place Apartments on the 3200 block of Township Line Road.
Ten people were rescued by ladder, and roughly 75 residents are now displaced, according to officials. Six people, including a firefighter, were taken to the hospital. The firefighter was released.
Upper Darby Fire Chief Nick Martin told NBC10 there is significant fire, smoke, and water damage throughout the building, forcing many residents from their homes.
The Red Cross said the building's property manager is providing temporary housing to those displaced.
One tenant, Raymond Irwin, said he had to be rescued from his second-floor apartment.
“It’s definitely traumatizing, very scary,” Irwin said. “I’m still trying to process it.”
Investigators are still working to determine what caused the fire.
