ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Paving Atlantic Avenue in Atlantic City should have started by now, but there’s another delay in the project. Mayor Marty Small said on Monday that work will now begin in October.
It’s been one problem after another holding up the Atlantic Avenue Improvement Project, one of the worst roads in the state, let alone in Atlantic City. Small said legal battles, contractor delays and grant funding holdups all contributed to delaying the timeline.
“So I’m here today, again, to wholeheartedly apologize that it has taken this long,” he said.
The project could have started in late August, but officials ultimately decided to let the summer wrap up first.
“Early October, Atlantic Avenue will be paved, and it will be done before our annual holiday parade” in December, Small announced.
Prep work is underway; Small said there will be a noticeable increase in construction activity until paving begins.
