NEW JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — The Atlantic City Airshow is canceled this year.

Organizers say the main act pulled out and the show won’t go on. They say the decision wasn’t made lightly and they understand the disappointment this may cause.

The show, scheduled for next month, was previously in jeopardy of being canceled because of funding issues but money from the state saved it, for a time.

"We’re sorry to hear the news the Airshow won’t be happening this summer," said Mayor Marty Small in a public statement. "The Small administration stepped up to do everything that needed to be done to save the Airshow earlier this year, but in the end this is a situation beyond the city’s control."

The tradition has brought hundreds of thousands of visitors to Atlantic City each summer. The future of the event is uncertain.

"We extend our heartfelt thanks and gratitude to all who have supported this event over the past number of years," the Greater Atlantic City Chamber, Visit Atlantic City and the South Jersey Transportation Authority said in a joint statement.
