PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia authorities believe an attempted carjacking led to the shooting death of a young man in South Philadelphia.
Police say a 38-year-old man was by his car when two masked men jumped out of a silver vehicle around 5 a.m. Tuesday along Water Street, near Front and Reed streets, in the city’s Pennsport neighborhood.
Officials say the 38-year-old fired at the pair and shot one in the midsection, then flagged down police. Medics got to the scene and declared the unidentified male dead. They believe he’s between 18 and 22 years old.
Investigators believe this was an attempted carjacking. They have taken the 38-year-old in for questioning but he has not yet been charged.
