NORTH PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — U.S. Marshals recaptured an inmate Tuesday morning who escaped from a correctional housing facility in North Philadelphia a little more than a week ago.

Authorities said they took Keith Freeman, 30, back into custody after agents surrounded a house where he was believed to be hiding on Nicholas Street near 24th Street and Cecil B. Moore Avenue in North Philadelphia.

Investigators said Freeman was found in the house’s living room hiding beneath a pile of clothes and was taken back into custody without further incident.

Freeman escaped from the Kintock Group on Luzerne Street between Whitaker Avenue and C Street on Feb. 23 after authorities said he got into a dispute with a staff member and then hopped two fences. He was there finishing a 96-month sentence for a weapons charge before his escape.

After his capture on March 4, officials said Freeman will now serve the remainder of his sentence at the Federal Detention Center in Center City.
