PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A high school football game scheduled to kick off in East Mt. Airy Friday night has been canceled, days after one teen was killed and four others were shot after a football practice in Northwest Philadelphia.
John Bartram High School was to play Imhotep Institute Charter High School at the Germantown supersite on Friday night.
But Athletic Director James Chapman said in a letter that the game was canceled because of a threat on John Bartram Field. Imhotep confirmed the game’s cancellation.
The junior varsity football game scheduled for this coming Monday has also been canceled and all football activities will be moved indoors until the field is deemed safe.
The threat comes on the heels of a deadly shooting outside of a high school football field in the city's Roxborough section where five teens were shot. One of them, Nicolas Elizalde, died.
