PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Fire crews are still working to contain a brush fire that broke out in Berks County just before midnight Friday.
According to our partners at NBC10, smoke started rising from Neversink Mountain in Reading around 11:30 p.m.
People in nearby homes were evacuated to the Amanda E. Stout Elementary School on 321 South 10th Street. As of Saturday morning, officials said the fire was not an immediate threat to any of the homes and residents were allowed to return.
A responding firefighter suffered a minor injury.
This is one of several wildfires in the region — multiple are burning across bone-dry New Jersey. A red flag warning is in effect.
