PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 42-year-old Berks County police officer, who was killed in the line of duty last month, was laid to rest Tuesday. The service was held at Exeter Township Senior High School Stadium.
Officer Kristen Yeager with the Central Berks Regional Police Department was killed after the police car she was driving crashed into a tree off Route 73 on May 29th.
The 2 1/2 year veteran was responding to a call in Earl Township. Officer Kristen Yeager leaves behind a husband and three children.
Governor Josh Shapiro spoke at the service and addressed Officer Yeager's children.
"Your mom is going to be looking down on you. From the sidelines of the game, I know you guys play a lot of different sports. She is going to be on your shoulder. She is going to be on your side. She is going to have your back, I know that may seem hard to understand and it's going to take a while to realize that your mom is always going to be there for you," he said.
Towards the end of the service, the traditional End of Watch call was given.
“Officer Yeager, you answered your final call. Your watch has ended. You are now out of service for the final time. Rest in Peace. Berks Clear --0912,” was called out.
