PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A man was struck and killed Tuesday morning while riding his bike in Fairmount Park.
Police say two cars, a black Dodge Charger and a black Chrysler, were speeding on Belmont Avenue in Fairmount Park around 10 a.m. when one of the cars crashed into 67-year-old Harry Fenton.
His body flew onto the road. Both drivers took off. Fenton was taken to the hospital, where he died about half an hour later.
Police say after the crash, they spotted a group of men inspecting damage on the front of a black Charger on Sedgley Drive near Kelly Drive and took the car in for evidence.
So far, no one has been arrested.
David Talone, a member of Philly Bike Action, said Fenton was also involved in the group and had signed petitions for protected bike lanes in the city.
“I believe he was fighting to get some buses out of bike lanes that were parked down in Old City,” Talone said.
Philly Bike Action plans to hold a protest and rally on Friday for more protected bike lanes in the city. There will be a moment of silence for Fenton.
