An autopsy cited Thursday by People Magazine said that Saget had fractures to his head and his eyes, and was COVID-19 positive at the time of his death.

Original story

Philadelphia native, beloved actor, and comedian Bob Saget died from a brain bleed after hitting his head, according to a family statement cited by news outlets including TMZ.

Saget was found dead by hotel security at around 4 p.m. in the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Orlando, FL on Jan. 9. He had performed at a comedy club in Jacksonville before driving to the hotel in Orlando, where he arrived just before 2 a.m.

Authorities aren't sure what Saget hit his head on, but said there was a bruise on the back of his head. They believe that he did not know the severity of the injury at the time and then went to bed.

Investigators had originally thought that Saget died from a heart attack or stroke, but the autopsy revealed otherwise.

TMZ reports that the toxicology report came back clean, as there were no narcotics or alcohol in his system.

Saget's family provided a statement on his death that was obtained by TMZ:

"Now that we have the final conclusions from the authorities' investigation, we felt it only proper that the fans hear those conclusions directly from us. The authorities have determined that Bob passed away from head trauma. They have concluded that he accidentally hit the back of his head on something, thought nothing of it and went to sleep. No drugs or alcohol were involved."

"As we continue to mourn together, we ask everyone to remember the love and laughter that Bob brought to this world, and the lessons he taught us all: to be kind to everyone, to let the people you love know you love them, and to face difficult times with hugs and laughter."

Saget was born in Philadelphia in 1956. He graduated from Abington Senior High School in 1975 and Temple University in 1978. He was inducted into Abington's Hall of Fame in 1991.
