PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia City Councilmember Bobby Henon has resigned all of his leadership positions in council, two days after being convicted in federal court of conspiracy and honest services fraud.
Henon did not resign his seat in Council, however.
In a memo to other council members obtained by KYW Newsradio, Council President Darrell Clarke says Henon “relinquishes his role as Chairman” of the Public Property and Licenses and Inspection Committees, as well as vice-chairmanship of Finance and Public Health.
Clarke said he’ll be working with the majority leadership to fill the vacancies.
Henon was convicted Monday with co-defendant John Dougherty on most of the counts against them after a six-week trial.
Dougherty resigned his post as business manager of electricians union Local 98.
Under state law, Henon can remain in his council seat until his sentencing, which is scheduled for late February.
