Philadelphia police have arrested Quadir Johnson, 20, and Kyair Garnett, 21, in the shooting death of Samir Jefferson, 14 from Monday night in North Philadelphia, and are charged with murder and other offenses. Police are still looking for three others.

Philadelphia Deputy Police Commissioner Ben Naish is also still looking for a motive in the case, even with two men arrested.

"Unless one of the individuals responsible for that shooting is going to tell us why in the world three 20-something-year-old individuals would track down and shoot an unarmed and defenseless 14-year-old, we have no specific direction at this point."

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police say a 14-year-old boy was shot nearly a dozen times while waiting for the bus.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. Monday near the corner of Rising Sun and West Wyoming avenues, an area of North Philadelphia that is lined with businesses.

Officials say two men got out of one or more cars and fired at least 35 shots from semi-automatic weapons while chasing the boy.

"A car load, possibly one or two cars, pull up," said Chief Inspector Scott Small. "At least two males get out, and they start shooting and chasing this victim and the victim runs about a block east on Wyoming."

Several people in the area called 911. Police found the boy laying on the sidewalk when they got to the scene.

"He’s shot multiple times, over 10 times: left arm, chest, torso," said Small.

The boy was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after 4 p.m.

The shooters took off north on Rising Sun, Small said, but officers were nearby. The two persons of interest are now in custody and are being questioned.

Police believe the 14-year-old victim attended a nearby school. They did not initially identify him. They also believe the shooting may have stemmed from a previous fight or argument involving teenagers or young adults.
