PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Shots were fired at a group of young people in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia Tuesday night, and a 14-year-old boy was wounded.

Around 11:30 p.m., police were called to Franklin Street and Lehigh Avenue.

The shots, which may have come from more than one person, were directed at a group of friends, and one of them, a 14-year-old boy, was hit in the back, police said.

“We know three shots were fired from what appears to be two separate caliber semiautomatic weapons,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small. “The witnesses only saw the victim running south on Franklin Street after being shot, and that’s where he collapsed on the sidewalk.”

The victim was rushed to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police are going through surveillance footage from homes and businesses in the neighborhood to try to identify and find the shooter or shooters.

Shootings are down in Philadelphia by about 20% compared to this same time last year, according to city data. Individuals under the age of 18 account for about 10% of the victims.
