PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Two young boys were among the more than a dozen victims shot in Philadelphia over yet another violent weekend.
The children were shot in separate incidents on Sunday. Police said a 4-year-old was inside an Olney barbershop waiting for a back-to-school haircut when he was hit in the shoulder by a bullet.
Police said some sort of argument broke out, and the gunman walked to the back of the shop and fired at least three shots, one of them hitting the boy.
Police Inspector D.F. Pace said the victim wasn't the only kid in the shop at the time. A witness told him it was "full of children."
Shortly before that, a 13-year-old was shot in the leg in Strawberry Mansion.
Both children were taken to the hospital and are expected to be OK.
According to the Philadelphia Controller's Office, more than 140 kids under the age of 18 have been shot this year.
The string of shootings also claimed lives. On Saturday, police said a 19-year-old was shot and killed near Kensington's McPherson Square. Also in North Philadelphia, another man was shot in his lower back and died.
No one was arrested in either of those fatal shootings.
As of Saturday, at least 355 shooting victims have died since the start of this year.
