PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — There is no doubt that medical studies and statistics rule the day when it comes to major health recommendations—and they should. Evidence and data are crucial to recommendations.

But, there is a very interesting article in the New England Journal of Medicine that focuses on breastfeeding and the fact that some medical recommendations are far more complex than others. According to the CDC, only 25% of women exclusively breastfeed in the first six months of their newborn’s life.

According to the article, more information about the benefits and the challenges of breastfeeding should be made available to new mothers, as well as resources for support throughout the process. Not all of this can come from studies.
