Bucks County-based Ukrainian credit union facilitating donations to Ukraine relief effort

Credit union waiving fees for members

FEASTERVILLE, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Support for Ukraine is pouring out of the Philadelphia area. Monetary and physical donations are being collected all across the region to help the people of Ukraine.

“Time is of the essence because nobody knows when this is going to end,” said Vlad Uchenuk. He and his wife, Nataliya, have been wiring money through the Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union, based in Bucks County, which is acting as a liaison to transfer donations into the country.

The money goes straight to a bank in Ukraine for their family to collect — family they talk with often, who share a clearer picture of what’s going on, like Nataliya Uchenuk’s cousin.

“She’s like, ‘We got used to the sirens. It does not freak you out as much as [it] used to.’ And that’s horrifying to me,” she said.

But it’s a way of helping that they feel they can provide — funding shipments of supplies like medical and protective gear. Paul Mizak feels the same.

“I know people are sacrificing so much more than I am,” he said, “and I want to be able to help in any way that I can.”

Wire fees are being waived for credit union members. Non-members can still donate, too. They can deposit a check or donate to them directly.

Laura Naumenko, who works in human resources, said it’s been incredible to see Ukraine unite like never before.

“I actually get goosebumps thinking about it,” she said. “There is more good in the world, and if we do more good like the world is showing, I truly think we will overcome.”
