CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Police in Camden County are naming and shaming illegal dumpers caught on camera and said they have cited more people so far this year than all of last year.
There are more than 1,000 eyes in the sky in Camden and they’ve been catching dozens of illegal dumpers red-handed, including some repeat offenders.
“What I want to highlight from this is that in all of 2025, we had 68 cases,” said Camden County Police Capt. Gordon Harvey. “We’ve charged more people year-to-date than we did in the calendar year of 2025.”
Harvey showed reporters some of the footage they’ve compiled recently of people dumping tires, mattresses, couches, construction debris and household trash. He said there was zero tolerance for this behavior and that police have been watching the cameras 24/7.
“You’ll see an individual pulls up. We have our cameras there. He dumps his trash. We charge him the same day. It happens that quick,” he said.
“This one is ironic because this person thought they could use the police department’s dumpster as their private dumpster. Probably not the best choice.”
Fines for illegal dumping are up to $10,000. Harvey advised residents who catch dumping on their phones or home security cameras to report it immediately, adding those who do will be eligible for a reward up to $1,000.
“We need your help,” he urged, “so keep reporting it. Keep helping us, and we’re going to continue to keep bringing people to justice.”
