Camden County nonprofits vie for piece of $8M of COVID-19 assistant grants

CAMDEN COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Nonprofits in Camden County are being encouraged to apply for COVID-19 assistance grants.

Any nonprofit, large or small, that suffered financially during the pandemic is eligible for a piece of up to $8 million, made available by the county.

"A lot of the nonprofits within Camden County provide tremendous support to our residents," said county commissioner Melinda Kane. She said applications for the COVID-19 Community Recovery Grant Program are being accepted now through November 30. Any organization that applies must prove its status as a nonprofit and provide a detailed budget in order to be considered.

"They have to sign agreements with the county," she added, "and the organizations must file periodic reports demonstrating how they have been using those funds, and any money that's unspent must be returned to the county."

Grants are capped at $500,000 for a single organization.

"The pandemic is not over and the impact remains, and we're not sure how long in the future that will be," said Kane. "We want to make sure that financially, these nonprofits can continue to operate and provide services in Camden County."
