PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — City workers have a big mess to clean up after a car got stuck in an apparent sinkhole in Spring Garden Wednesday morning.
Danicia Monet was driving her rented Mitsubishi Mirage down 12th Street, through the triangular intersection of Ridge Avenue, when things took a turn for the worse.
"Driving out to go to a site visit and I come down the road, no tape up, just see dirt. So I'm ready to pull out and … the car just falls in," she said.

Water department crews quickly got to the scene and taped off the road, which is now broken in several places and has multiple holes.
They expect to spend the next couple of days cleaning up the area.
"That already was a problem," said Eliot Barnes, who lives down the street. "There already was a sinkhole there that we complained about. So when you go to make this turn onto Ridge Avenue, the right turn, you automatically go into a sinkhole. I didn't know about the water main they said that happened overnight, and water was shooting up."
Barnes said this longstanding infrastructure problem has also created a rodent problem in the neighborhood.
Monet was able to get out of her car safely. She was visiting Philadelphia from Indiana to look for places to stay.
Ironically, she's planning on going to Temple University to study urban management. She certainly got a firsthand look at how that's working in Philly.
