BALA CYNWYD, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A 77-year-old woman has died after her car plunged into the Schuylkill River on Tuesday morning in Bala Cynwyd, according to Lower Merion police.
Emergency officials received a call shortly after 9 a.m. about a car in the water off Righters Ferry Road, by the AFC Fitness gym.
Two Lower Merion police officers and the Union Fire Company firefighter pulled the woman from the water. She was taken to Lankenau Medical Center, where she was initially in critical condition.
The woman’s car was removed from the river a few hours later.
Shortly before 5 p.m., the Lower Merion Police Department reported that the woman had died.
The two police officers and the firefighter were released from the hospital Tuesday afternoon and are doing well, police say.
Police are not releasing any further information, including video, while an investigation into the cause of the incident continues.
