MOUNT LAUREL, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Police are searching for the driver who fatally struck a man on an e-bike in Mount Laurel on Monday, then fled.
The hit-and-run happened around 12:15 a.m. Monday. Police said 49-year-old Anthony Caprio III, of Magnolia, was riding his e-bike along the southbound shoulder of Route 73, near Clover Lane, when a white SUV struck him.
The SUV fled south on Route 73 toward Evesham Township.
When officers arrived, they found Caprio unresponsive on the ground. He died at the scene.
Lt. Thomas Corsanico said the e-bike’s lights were on when Caprio was hit. The initial hit isn’t on video, but he said they do have other video evidence.
“Unfortunately, the victim was drug for approximately a quarter-mile under the vehicle with his bike. That is on video,” said Corsanico.
Police released images of the SUV in hopes of gaining information about the suspect’s whereabouts. They are also searching for more surveillance footage from nearby residents and businesses.
“We just hope that people come forward and provide any information they have,” Corsanico added.
