PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — One of the men federally charged with setting a police car on fire during 2020’s civil unrest was sentenced to nearly four years in prison.

Federal authorities charged Carlos Matchett and three others, who allegedly helped torch a Philadelphia police car near City Hall with a fire flare on May 30, 2020.

Matchett, of Atlantic City, New Jersey, was charged with obstruction of law enforcement during civil disorder and rioting.

Authorities said he was seen on video approaching one of the police civil affairs cars, and he added paper and an accelerant before it burst into flames.

The next day, investigators said Matchett livestreamed similar destruction in Atlantic City on Facebook, encouraging others to join in on rioting and looting.

Matchett was sentenced to 46 months in prison with three years of supervised release. He must also pay nearly $30,000 in restitution to the city’s police department.
