PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three people were wounded in a shooting in Center City Sunday night, the latest in a string of shootings that happened across Philadelphia over the weekend.
Around 11:30 p.m. at 11th and Ludlow streets, an argument got out of hand, police said. Someone fired shots and a 42-year-old woman was hit in the pelvis and arm. She was taken to the hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.
A 53-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man were also shot and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Investigators on the scene said there was cellphone video of the incident but it was taken at a distance. They will be going through available surveillance video from the businesses in the area as they continue to investigate. So far, no one has been arrested.
About 24 hours prior, there were three separate shootings that police responded to that had a combined eight victims.
Around 9:40 p.m. Saturday, a 28-year-old man was shot in the stomach in the area of Ninth Street and Hunting Park Avenue, according to police. The victim was stable at the hospital. No one was arrested.
Around 10:30 p.m., there was a quadruple shooting at 58th Street and Baltimore Avenue. A 23-year-old man was killed. About a half-hour later at 62nd Street and Grays Avenue, there was a triple shooting that broke out after a road rage incident. A 21-year-old man was killed and a 22-year-old man was critically shot.
There is a lot for police to investigate, but overall, Philadelphia is not experiencing the level of deadly violence that has been present in recent years. As of Monday morning, there have been 109 homicides in the city so far this year — a 38% drop compared to the same time in 2023.
