PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A unique festival called Tiny Room for Elephants, one that fuses art and music, returns to Philadelphia this weekend.
The Cherry Street Pier off of Columbus Boulevard in Old City has been transformed into an art gallery, with giant murals and street art paintings displayed from end to end.
“We have over 43 artists this year that have participated in all levels of creative mediums, from visual arts like painting and spray paint to fiber arts as well,” said Yaya Horne, the co-founder and CEO of the festival being held for the fifth time. The group also held festivals in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019.
Horne said that from Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon, fans can enjoy the work of artists who are mainly from Philadelphia. They were given the freedom to paint whatever their hearts desired.

“They’ve come in and they’ve painted together over the last 10 days,” said Horne. “They’ve collaborated, they’ve traded tips and tricks, they’ve formed relationships, bonds, communities and they’ve created these masterpieces.”
The weekend festival, which also shines a light on Philadelphia-area musical acts, is designed to give visitors a fully immersive experience.
“There's a lot that can be learned from one artistic medium to another,” said musician Jason Bachman, who will take part in the festival.
“I'm not a visual artist, but I learned so much from these people that I take back to my musical art.”

Besides the live music, DJ performances and art installations, the festival will host a breakdancing championship and a family-friendly Sunday event with a kids' “sip and paint” event.
