PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Chester County will elect a new district attorney on Tuesday, as sitting DA Deb Ryan is running for county judge.

Republican Ryan Hyde and Democrat Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe are running to replace her as the top law enforcement official in Chester County. Both live in Chester County and both served in county DA’s offices — de Barrena-Sarobe for six years in Chester County, before becoming a federal prosecutor in Delaware in 2015.

“I’ve been a prosecutor my entire career,” he said. “I’ve done it at every level, from traffic tickets to murder cases to cartel indictments.”

Hyde spent five years in the Bucks County DA’s Office before becoming a criminal defense attorney.

“Knowing the DAs that are doing the job and being in those courtrooms has put me in a unique position to sort of see where the issues are and how to fix them,” he said.

Both say they know and respect their opponent, but subtle differences separate them.

Hyde said his business background will help him recruit, train and keep talented prosecutors. De Berrena-Sarobe said he has working knowledge and a proven record as a prosecutor to get the job done.
