PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Chester County’s art scene is “springing” to life, as a special springtime tour next week is giving people a chance to get up close with the artists.
“I paint booze, popular culture stuff, kitschy 1950’s stuff,” said artist Jeff Schaller. “It’s fun. I like all my work to be fun.”
The Chester County resident noticed that people going past his house took an interest in what they saw.
“I’m in the middle of nowhere," added Schaller. "My house kind of has a bunch of stuff outside, like sculptures and stuff. Some people call it white trash. I call it art, and I wanted to open up my studio to the neighborhood and let people come in and see what I do.”
That led Schaller to start the Chester County Studio Tour, which is scheduled to run on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15.
“You can come in and see the art, see it being made,” said Schaller. “This is an opportunity to meet the creator behind the artwork. It has grown to, this year, 165 artists and 68 studios.”
The tour has a Find 5 app that lets you create your own mini-tour based on your interests.
You can also purchase art at the different studios.
