CHESTER, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The police commissioner in the city of Chester announced his immediate retirement on Tuesday after he was placed on administrative leave for an investigation into his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run over the weekend.

The incident happened Sunday night, according to officials, who said Commissioner Steven Gretsky was driving a black SUV when he hit a parked car.

Authorities said Gretsky had just left Liberty Tavern on MacDade Boulevard in Woodlyn when he hit the car near East 22nd and Hyatt streets. Officials said he fled the scene without providing personal or insurance information.

There were no injuries.

Major Katrina Blackwell will serve as acting commissioner while the city searches for a permanent replacement.

Gretsky is charged with reckless driving, failing to give information and render aid, and related offenses.

The Delaware County District Attorney’s Office said it refuses to comment.
