PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia man has admitted to shooting a 7-year-old riding in a car with her family last year.
Alfred Marrero pleaded guilty on Tuesday to three aggravated assault charges and a gun offense. In exchange, city prosecutors dropped attempted murder and a dozen other charges.
The shooting happened last October near Sixth Street and Indiana Avenue in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia.
According to police, the child was in the back seat of a Honda sedan when at least five shots were fired nearby. One of the bullets penetrated the driver's side rear door and struck the girl in the arm.
Family members rushed the girl to the hospital once they realized she had been shot.
Marrero has several previous convictions including aggravated assault, gun and drug offenses.
He is set to be sentenced next January.
