PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia police are looking for a man accused of shooting a 7-year-old girl as she was riding in the car with her mother last week.
Around 7:15 p.m. on Oct. 28 in North Philadelphia, the girl was riding in the car along Marshall Street, near Sixth Street and Indiana Avenue, when she was shot in the arm.
Police said her mother immediately raced her to Temple University Hospital. She is expected to physically recover.
Detectives combed the scene for video and ballistics and found half a dozen shell casings from a 9mm gun. They identified 30-year-old Alfredo Marrero as the suspect.
Marrero is no stranger to the criminal justice system. In 2018, he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault, conspiracy and a weapons offense in a negotiated deal with prosecutors, and he was sentenced to less than two years in prison with five years of probation.
Months later, in 2019, he was arrested again and pleaded guilty to drug and gun offenses. This time, he was sentenced to five to 10 years in prison. But, according to court records, Marrero was released in October 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Police ask anyone who knows of Marrero’s whereabouts to call them at 215-686-TIPS, even if they wish to remain anonymous.
