PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With supply finally catching up to demand, the city is now focusing its efforts on those who are reluctant to get the vaccine.

Philadelphia has administered nearly 700,000 shots so far, including 200,000 second doses. Health Commissioner Dr. Tom Farley said with another new city-run clinic and seven new health care groups targeting hard-to-reach residents, there are now 200 providers giving shots at a rate of more than 100,000 a week — and growing.

Health officials expect to be distributing 160,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine a week by the end of April.

As more and more people get vaccinated, the city is turning its attention to people who are not: vaccine skeptics.

"It emphasizes how vaccination will help us get our lives back to normal," he said of the new city campaign. "It shows people in Philadelphia doing what they love to do and have not been able to do for so long, like having a meal with friends or hugging their grandmother or going to church."

The $1.5 million campaign will start small in communities but will grow as the supply does over the next six months.
