PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is getting a new facility, thanks to the largest single gift in the hospital’s history.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts and his wife, Aileen, announced a $125 million gift to CHOP to create a new hospital, Roberts Children’s Health.

The high-rise building in University City is scheduled to open in 2028.

Its neighbor, the existing CHOP facility on Civic Center Boulevard, will also be revitalized. Together, there will be more than 3 million square feet of hospital space, 700 private rooms, and 30 specialized procedure and imaging rooms.

CHOP said this largest single donation in its 170-year history will make it the “premier global destination for pediatric care.”
