PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A new tool called continuous glucose monitoring is rapidly becoming a major tool in the control of blood sugar for millions of Americans with diabetes.
A sensor just under a person's skin measures blood sugar 24 hours a day. This information is sent by a transmitter to a watch or wearable device.
The reason why this is so popular is that it reduces the need for finger pricks to test blood sugar levels. For a person with diabetes, it all comes down to measuring the blood sugar and treating elevations on a consistent basis
If blood sugar is not kept in a normal range, there can be long-term damage.
