PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A cyber attack on Cooper Health System discovered last year may have compromised the personal information of 57,412 current and former patients, according to a public notice released last Friday.

The breach occurred on or about May 14, 2024. That same month, Cooper said it became aware of unusual network activity and worked immediately to secure its systems with the help of a cybersecurity firm. A nearly year-long investigation was launched and ended on March 26, 2025.

The investigation found that an unknown actor had gained unauthorized access to Cooper’s network. The compromised data includes patients’ names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, health insurance information, and medical history.

Cooper said it reported the incident to the FBI and took further, but undisclosed, measures to enhance its network security.

When asked by KYW Newsradio for comment, a spokesperson for the health system did not answer questions about how many patients from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, or Delaware were impacted, or if it affected more patients at a specific Cooper location as opposed to others.

Patients whose information may have been exposed received mailed notices last week. The health system is offering complimentary identity protection services through a third-party provider, and a toll-free call center has also been set up for potential victims to get more information and support.
