PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Semaglutides and other drugs that work by interacting with GLP-1 receptors in the body are very important as weapons against obesity and diabetes.

The widespread use of these drugs has led to extensive research related to other health conditions. Researchers from the University of Southern California believe these drugs could also reduce alcohol cravings in people with alcohol use disorder.

Their results are very early and they admit that they need further studies to support their results, but the researchers found that the drug dramatically reduced the number of so-called heavy drinking days, which are often associated with intense cravings for alcohol.
