PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Philadelphia prosecutors have announced charges against a couple whom they say orchestrated an attack on a 35-year-old man last month, nearly killing him.
The attack happened on Frankford Avenue, near Cumberland in Kensington on May 25.
Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office Homicide Supervisor Chelsey Lightsey said about a half dozen people were involved, including a suspect named Joseph Scott.
"The victim was beaten, kicked, stabbed. He had actually suffered a lung injury from that, and had to have a portion of his lung removed," said Lightsey.
"Joseph Scott held a gun, fired it, and the victim was able to push the gun away, receiving a graze wound to the head."
This weekend, police pulled Scott, 36, over and tried to arrest him on attempted murder and gun charges. That’s when, they say, Scott pointed a gun at them.
"There was a small child in the car at the time," said Lightsey.
"As the police went in to make the arrest, Mr. Scott pulled a gun on police. They were able to talk him down from using that gun, which would have had devastating results for everyone."
Devon McAndrews, 25, is Scott's girlfriend. She was with him in the car, and was also arrested on aggravated assault and related charges.
She is being held on $300,000 bail. Scott is being held on $1.5 million bail.
