CHESTER, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Search crews resumed recovery efforts on Tuesday to find a 6-year-old girl who fell into the Chester Creek in Delaware County on Saturday.

Crews used scent dogs to try to locate Li’najah Brooker, and to bring her family some closure.

“We’re going to continue with whatever resources we have available to us. We will continue to use those resources until we’ve basically exhausted everything,” said Chester Fire Commissioner John Paul Shirley.

Shirley has led the search since Li’najah slipped and fell into the creek while playing in a park Saturday after the intense rainstorm across the area.

Search crews used sonar on Monday, but were unable to find her.

“[We’re] scanning the entire Chester Creek, from the mouth all the way up to where she fell in,” Shirley said.

There are questions about holes in the park fence that could have allowed the girl to get too close to the creek.

“There might be some areas of that fence [that are] compromised,” said Chester Mayor Stefan Roots, “and that’s something we can’t accept.”
