PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The long-awaited debate between U.S. Senate candidates Mehmet Oz and John Fetterman has been set for Tuesday, Oct. 25, two weeks before Election Day.

That hasn’t stopped the sniping about debates between the two campaigns.

The Fetterman campaign on Wednesday announced it had agreed to a debate hosted by Nexstar Television, which it says has affiliates that broadcast to all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties. That includes channel 17 in Philadelphia.

The Oz campaign, after weeks of hounding Fetterman to debate, then issued new demands for the event, in light of special accommodations that Fetterman requested.

Fetterman asked for closed captioning because he continues to experience auditory processing delays as a result of a stroke, last spring.

Oz’s campaign said it wants the audience told about the closed captions and it wants a longer debate — 90 minutes instead of 60.

The Fetterman campaign accused Oz of “moving the goal posts.” A spokesperson agreed the audience should be told about the closed captioning … but flatly refused to extend the length of the debate.
